The Dragon Drive from Bangalore to Bhutan is an epic self drive
adventure that takes you across India into the mystical Himalayan
kingdom, famously known as the “Land of the Thunder Dragon.”
Starting from Bangalore, the journey spans thousands of kilometres
through diverse landscapes, highways, forests, plains, and finally
the winding mountain roads of Bhutan.
Travelling in a convoy adds to the thrill, combining adventure with
exploration.
It’s not just a road trip it’s a blend of LUXURY, adventure, culture,
and unforgettable Himalayan experiences.
Day 01 (Dec 19) Sat : Bangalore → Vijayawada (600+ km, 10h)
You’ll gather at 6:00 AM at a common meet up point for a grand
flag-off.
After breakfast we begin the long, scenic drive through Andhra
Pradesh’s verdant countryside.
Arrive by night, check in at Vijayawada hotel.
Day 02 (Dec 20) Sun : Vijayawada → Vizag (350 km, 6:30 h)
Breakfast at Vijayawada Hotel then depart around 8:30 AM.
Drive towards Vishakhapatnam and check in at hotel (Mostly
Novotel)
Evening beach walk and explore museum & famous RK beach in
the evening.
Day 03 (Dec 21) Mon : Vizag → Bhubaneswar (420 km, 7:30 h)
Breakfast at Vizag Hotel then depart around 8:30 AM.
Drive towards Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha and check
in at hotel. On the way we visit Asia’s Largest Back water lagoon
Chilika Lake.
Evening time walk we explore local street food of Bhubaneswar.
One can visit famous Lingaraj Temple.
Those who wish to visit Jagannath Dham Puri can drive to Puri
post dinner for night darshan and we will assist you to do so.
Day 04 (Dec 22) Tue : Bhubaneswar → Dhanbad (500 km, 10h)
Early Breakfast at Bhubaneswar Hotel then depart towards
Dhanbad, the coal capital city of India which is located in
Jharkhand state. Check in at hotel.
Today we drive through West Bengal and reach Dhanbad.
A quick briefing will be done by BCCL team regarding next day
morning visit to active Coal Mines of Dhanbad.

Day 05 (Dec 23) Wed : Dhanbad → Nalanda (240 km, 4:30h)
Early morning visit to open coal mines to witness coal mining live
and back to hotel for Breakfast. Then depart towards
Rajgir/Nalanda.
Today one can also visit Bodh Gaya before reaching Nalanda.
Evening time we will visit to ”The Lost Library” of Nalanda
University”
Overnight stay Post dinner at Nalanda Resort.
Day 06 (Dec 24) Thu : Nalanda → Siliguri (450 km, 8-9h)
Post breakfast we drive towards the Siliguri located at so called
“Chicken Neck” of India.
We drive through plains of river Ganges today in Bihar.
Upon reaching Siliguri check in at hotel and prepare for next day
Border Crossing to Bhutan.
Overnight stay Post dinner at Siliguri Hotel.
Day 07 (Dec 25) Fri : Siliguri → Paro (Bhutan) (300 km, 7-8h)
TODAY WILL BE THE DAY TO ENTER BHUTAN
After breakfast we drive towards India Bhutan Border (Jaigaon)
We do immigration process and head towards Paro.
Upon reaching Paro check in at Luxurious hotel (Le Meridien
Riverfront).
Overnight stay Post dinner at Siliguri Hotel.
Day 08 (Dec 26) Sat : Paro Local (Day To Relax)
After an early breakfast, proceed for a hike to the iconic Tiger’s
Nest Monastery, perched dramatically at an altitude of
approximately 3,120 m.
The round-trip trek takes about 4–5 hours and offers spectacular
views of the valley.
After returning to Paro, visit key attractions such as Rinpung
Dzong and the National Museum of Bhutan.
The evening is at leisure, with the option to arrange a cultural
program.

Day 09 (Dec 27) Sun : Paro → Thimphu (40 km, 1h)
Today, drive towards the pristine Haa Valley via the spectacular
Chele La Pass (approx. 3,988 m), the highest motorable pass in
Bhutan.
The journey offers panoramic Himalayan views.
In Haa Valley (altitude ~2,700 m) visit the sacred Lhakhang Karpo
and Lhakhang Nagpo, followed by an outdoor farmhouse lunch.
Later, continue your drive to Thimphu (altitude ~2,334 m). The
total journey spans approximately 135 km and takes around 5–6
hours.

Day 10 (Dec 28) Mon : Thimphu → Punakha (70 km, 2h)
After breakfast, drive to Punakha, covering around 75 km in 2.5–3
hours.
En route, stop at the scenic Dochula Pass (3,100 m), known for its
108 stupas and sweeping Himalayan vistas.
Descend into the warmer valley of Punakha (altitude ~1,200 m)
and visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong.
The evening is free for curated experiences or relaxation.

Day 11 (Dec 29) Tue : Punakha → Bumthang (200 km, 4-5h)
Begin your day with a long but rewarding drive towards
Phobjikha Valley (altitude ~3,000 m).
Visit the serene Gangtey Monastery overlooking the glacial
valley.
Continue onward to Bumthang (altitude ~2,600 m), often
regarded as the cultural heart of Bhutan.
Dinner and overnight stay in Bumthang.
Day 12 (Dec 30) Wed : Bumthang Local
Today is at leisure to explore the beautiful Bumthang Valley.
You may take short drives to visit important monasteries such as
Jakar Dzong and Kurjey Lhakhang, enjoy nature walks, interact
with locals, or arrange cultural activities such as archery or
outdoor dining experiences.
With its serene landscapes and spiritual ambiance, Bumthang
offers a relaxed and immersive experience.
Day 13 (Dec 31) Thu : Bumthang → Gelephu (240 km, 6-7h)
After breakfast, begin your drive towards Gelephu, descending
from the central highlands to the southern plains.
The journey offers changing landscapes, from alpine forests to
subtropical terrain.
On arrival in Gelephu (altitude ~300 m), check in to your hotel.
An evening to celebrate new year with fellow participants.

Day 14 (Jan 01) Fri : Gelephu → Siliguri (300 km, 6-7h)
On this final day of Bhutan, we drive back to Siliguri.

Day 15 (Jan 02) Sat : Siliguri → Patna (455 km, 8-9h)
After breakfast, begin your drive towards Patna capita city of
Bihar also know as Patliputra. We do possible sightseeing in
Patna .

Day 16 (Jan 03) Sun : Patna → Varanasi (270 km, 5:30h)
On this day post breakfast we drive towards spiritual capital
Varanasi also known as Kashi.
After check in at hotel we go for Ganga Boating and witness
famous Ganga Aarti. We visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple in the
evening. Overnight stay in Varanasi post dinner.
Day 17 (Jan 04) Mon : Varanasi → Jabalpur (450 km, 8h)
Post breakfast we start our journey towards Jabalpur. We target
to reach Bhedaghat directly to experience cable car.

Day 18 (Jan 05) Tue : Jabalpur → Medchal, HYD (730 km, 13h)
Post breakfast we start our journey towards Hyderabad. We
choose to stay next to ORR to avoid Hyderabad traffic.
Check in and overnight stay post dinner at Medchal Hotel.
Day 19 (Jan 06) Wed : Medchal → Bengaluru (600 km, 10h)
A day to drive back home after the last breakfast together at
Hyderabad after conquering BHUTAN.
